Network Applications and Utilities
An extensive selection of Windows client and server applications
are provided, including: terminal emulation applications such as Telnet and TN3270; graphical
FTP servers for drag-and-drop file transfer; Internet access tools, such as Email, a News Reader
and Gopher; print services and hundreds of other commands and functions. Applications can be launched using
LaunchPad, Hummingbird's unique user programmable menuing and Virtual Desktop facility, and a
fully functional BASIC language Workbench is included for writing scripts to automate repetitive
tasks.
FTP File Transfer
A graphical drap-and-drop FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application allows users to simply
transfer binary and text files between a PC and a remote computer.
Features include:
- FTP supports graphical drag-and-drop file transfer and directory management
- Local printing and BASIC script driven file transfers
- Supports Active FTP connections - for sites that have security in effect
preventing incoming FTP data connections
- Firewall support
- Connection to Internet Anonymous FTP servers
Electronic Mail
TCP/IP Maestro features an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Email application allowing
the user to send and receive electronic mail from the PC through a mail server, supporting
POP2 & POP3 (Post Office Protocol). Messages can include binary files and MIME
(Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension) files or UUencode/UUdecode. MAPI
(Message Application Programming Interface) support is provided for Mail enabled applications
such as Excel, Word, etc. allowing files to be mailed directly from the application over
the Internet.
News Reader
A threaded Network News Reader provides simple and fast access to the thousands of USENET
news groups, user groups, mailing lists, and other services all over the world, allowing the
user to read and post messages to any NNTP News Server on any topic. Its threaded capability
allows users to open multiple news groups simultaneously. Includes filtering and reading options,
and all messages can be downloaded into text files, printed on the fly, or mailed to other
users.
Gopher
A Gopher client provides easy menu-based searches for information on the Internet. Gopher
fully supports bookmarks and checkpoints, and includes a built-in text and graphics viewer
with quick print and save buttons. The Gopher Menu Editor, used in conjunction with a PC-based
Gopher server is an easy GUI interface to assist menu creation and setup.
Terminal Emulation - Telnet & TN3270
Multiple terminal emulations include Telnet, which supports VT320/220/100/52 with BASIC scripting to
automate the login sequence. The graphical keyboard remapping permits the user to customize
the keyboard. Other features include copy & paste, scroll-back buffers, local printing, extended text
attributes, color mapping, and automatic re-sizing of fonts when the Telnet window is re-sized.
TN3270 IBM mainframe terminal emulation - Supporting 3278 models 2, 3, 4, 5 & 3279 models 2 & 3.
Other features include:

Printing Capabilities

Launch Pad & Virtual Desktop
A user programmable menu program with graphical interface is provided which simplifies window
management and application launching. The Virtual Desktop provides a virtual screen much larger
than the actual display, presenting a bird's-eye view of all launched applications which the user
can move on or off the screen.
BASIC Scripting Function
TCP/IP Maestro includes a fully functional BASIC language implementation for building sophisticated
and powerful administration scripts. With support for FTP, Telnet, and TN3270, virtually any
administrative task can be built, and compiled into an application which can be launched from
an icon. A dialog box editor and debugging tools are included.
Server Applications
Server TCP/IP application programs include the Internet service daemon (Inetd) for Windows which
conserves PC resources by starting and stopping daemons only when required. Inetd provides the
Windows PC platform with the full functionality of a UNIX workstation enabling peer-to-peer connectivity
among PC workstations and workgroups (LAN or WAN) by implementing server functions for TCP/IP based
applications, which include: Boodpd (for booting diskless
workstations); Cookied; Fingerd; Gopherd (Gopher Server); FTPd; LPD; Talkd; Telnetd; Tftpd (Trivial FTP);
Timed; Tnamed (Trivial Name Server); or a user-supplied service.
Network Utilities
Powerful client, troubleshooting, and address resolution tools include:
- Finger - Lookup tool to determine which users are active on a server machine
- Ping - Testing tool to determine whether a specific machine is connected to the
network and available
- ARP - Address Resolution Protocol - to display or clear the contents of the internal
temporary ARP cache
- Trace Route - Graphical testing tool to trace path of data packet across networks
- Talk - Chat facility to communicate from machine to machine across the office or
across the Internet
- Wiki - Paging program allows messages to be sent directly from the PC to a paging system
- NSLookup - Name Service Lookup to determine information on a specific machine, or
network domain
- Cookie - Application to return a clever quotation
- Whois - Query the Central Network Operations Center database for information on
specific user and specific network sites
